Update: December 2, 2009 - Presented at the November 24th. Parks Board meeting, concept plans for 3 redevelopment components in the Town Lake Park complex - 1) Children's Garden (within Butler Park area), 2) redesign of east end parking and new restrooms, and 3) creation of a formal "dog park." All three components must fall within a $4.27m budget. Based on available budget, redevelopment of these three areas is restricted to a "scaled back" view. TBG Partners made the presentation. July 24, 2009 - Austin Chronicle - Bloch Foundation wants Butler Park for cancer art - "Beauty in nature nourishes us and brings joy to the human spirit." Those words by Lady Bird Johnson are carved on a stone by the side of the pond in Butler Park, just south of Riverside Drive. The shallow ornamental pool on the north side of the Palmer Events Center is a serene home to small fish, birds, dragonflies, and the occasional blotched water snake. But the quiet pond has now become the locus of the latest round in a 13-year controversy over a $1 million art donation. Proponents want a space to commemorate and inspire cancer sufferers and survivors; opponents say it would hand over public land to a corporate art project.

Monday, July 13 - Art in Public Places (AiPP) panel briefed by Austin Parks Foundation on the R.A. Bloch Foundation’s Survivor Park. Panel questioned location, base intent of the gift, relevance to the masterplan, and concerns about conditions in which the gift is being made to the Parks Foundation.
July 10, 2009 - Lowell H. Lebermann Jr., three-term Austin City Council member, former University of Texas System regent, civic leader, cultural and business leader, and one of the founding members of TLP while serving on city council, died Thursday at the age of 70. Austinites are grateful for your effort, dedication, and vision for what is today, Austin's "crown jewel" in our park system. Thanks Lowell!

May 7, 2009 - New sidewalk placed at Drake Bridge (South First St. Bridge) and parking lot. Also, parking under the bridge is no longer available. PARD has installed barriers under the bridge.
April 28, 2009 -T he Austin Parks Foundation today announced a pledge of $100,000 for planting trees in and around the Barton Springs Pool area. The recently released Barton Springs Pool Tree Assessments report paints a dire picture of the health of the trees in this area, raising citizen concerns about trees being cut down. “We’ll be sad to see any of the trees removed,” said Charlie McCabe, Austin Parks Foundation (APF) Executive Director. “Regardless of the city’s decision, planting more trees now will ensure the long-term arboreal beauty of Barton Springs.” Donate to the Barton Springs Tree Fund.
April 15, 2009 - Barton Springs Master Plan Tree Assessment Report was initiated by City Council in 2008 to improve Barton Springs Pool. As a component of the master plan, a tree assessment from an independent consultant was commissioned to determine their condition. First and foremost is the safety of our patrons.

APD (Austin Police Department) writing tickets this morning to folks who parked their cars along the curb in the parking lot – north of Butler Park. The offense was for “left wheel to curb.” In speaking with the officer, someone complained that they could not safely pull out of the defined parking space. In other words, because of the tight squeeze, all cars along the curb got a ticket. The officer stated he was writing the tickets because of the complaint.
April 4, 2009 - Construction will soon begin on "Between the Bridges." This is the area on the south side of Lady Bird Lake between the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge and the historic Union Pacific railroad bridge.
